SANDY
VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL JOINS CROSSING TO SAFETY TO DEVELOP
RAILROAD SAFETY PRESENTATION FOR OHIO'S HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
TO SAVE LIVES
Canal Fulton,
Ohio --The Angels on Track Foundation, working
directly with its newly appointed education director
for Crossing To Safety, Dr. Harvey A. Levine, will
present a one day presentation entitled, "Ohio's
Dangerous Railroad Crossings -- A Lesson Unit on How
to Save Lives" on Monday, May 20th at
Sandy Valley High School.
Sandy Valley Local
Schools Principal Nicki Howard, and faculty members Edward
Lidderdale and James Rarric expressed interest in adopting
this lesson plan as part of their yearly curriculum. History,
economics, physics, mathematics, government (civic) and
art classes are challenged to participate. The lesson plan
is flexible in that teachers can choose among one, two,
or three classroom sessions.
The Lesson Plan
is based on a balanced education message -- one that recognizes
that "Bad Crossings Kill Good Drivers" not
just inappropriate driving by motorists.
Understanding
that Ohio's new and prospective drivers will face pressures
at railroad crossings not associated with traditional highway
driving, and the fact that approximately half or (2,725)
of Ohio's public railroad grade crossings are marked only
with "informational"
signs, Trustees of the Angels on Track Foundation want to
stress safety. This newly developed education program explains
in detail the vast variety of dangers associated with railroad
crossings in Ohio and across the United States.
