Ohio’s Reduction
in Railroad Accidents
The Angels on Track
Foundation is proud to have played an important role in the
reduction of railroad grade-crossing accidents and fatalities
in Ohio. While
recently released Federal Railroad Administration statistics
report a slight decline in accidents for Ohio and across the
United States, dangerous, unprotected, sight obstructed railroad
crossings still exist.
In 2005, Angels on Track continued to work
with various county task forces to help fund the installation
of crossing gates; distribute information on crossing safety;
erect educational posterboards and billboards throughout Ohio;
and run radio public service announcements.
Virtually all Ohioans
were exposed to the Foundation’s
three “I” Program: Involvement (of
local communities), Installation (of gates),
and Implementation (enforcing existing laws
and safety education).
