Angels on Track Wins Inaugural Safety Award

CANTON – The railroad crossing safety group Angels on Track has been named the first recipient of the Angel of Justice Award from the Stark County Academy of Trial Lawyers.

The rail group was founded by Vicky and Dennis Moore after their youngest son, Ryan, was killed in a train-car collision in 1995 near their Lawrence Township home. The crossing had no lights or gates.

The couple uses a jury award against the rail operator to fund safety improvements at crossings.

Angels on Track, working with established county task forces, has funded 11 gate and safety projects in Ohio at a cost of nearly $300,000.

It also sponsors driver-awareness and education programs.

“What the Moores have done in our community is inspirational. From their personal, unimaginable tragedy has come strength, a sense of purpose and an unwavering desire to make this community safer,” said Brian Wilson, President of the trial lawyers association.

“They are heroes in our own backyard, and they deserve our recognition and support.”

The Stark County Academy of Trial Lawyers created the honor this year to recognize local groups that make a difference in promoting safety or justice in Stark County.

It was named after the golden angels atop the Stark County Courthouse.

Angels on Track got the award and a donation during a recent ceremony at the Marriott McKinley Grand Hotel.
