FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE August 31, 2001 OHIO
RALLY AT THE RAILS On September 8, 2001, members of railroad safety groups, families/friends of victims of preventable railroad tragedies and concerned citizens, will host simultaneous "Rally at the Rails"in states across the country. Ohio's version of National Rally at the Rails Day will be held in Williams County, County Rd. I, the scene of a preventable railroad tragedy that claimed a mother and four young people this past July 4th weekend. This crossing did not have protection devices, but was only marked with an information sign, the Buckeye crossbuck. Approximately 2,732 public railroad crossings in Ohio are marked with a crossbuck sign. Speakers at the rally will include a representative from (OH-5th District) Cong. Paul E. Gillmor's office, Cleveland Attorney Lawrence Landskroner, and information on EVA Signal systems. A poem will be read by a family member written by Amber Petre who tragically lost her life in the July 1st accident. A memorial banner will be displayed and a moment of silence will be shared by everyone attending to honor the memory of all those killed in railroad tragedies from across the country. Free handouts/info will be available. Organizers want to make the statement "IT SHOULDN'T TAKE A TRAGEDY TO GET GATES AND LIGHTS INSTALLED AT A DANGEROUS UNPROTECTED RAILROAD CROSSING" For more information on other rallies or directions go to: ralleyattherails.org http://www.angelsontrack.org/083101.html ©2006 The Angels on Track Foundation.
