FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE February 16, 2001 KENT STATE UNIVERSITY'S ANNUAL GREEK
SONGFEST TO BENEFIT THE ANGELS ON TRACK FOUNDATION
The Greek Board selected The Angels on Track Foundation as the beneficiary of this year's event. Angels on Track is a non-profit railroad safety foundation dedicated to ensuring all railroad grade crossings are equipped with properly functioning lights, gates and other protection devices. Its goal is also to educate drivers and create awareness of railroad safety issues. The Foundation was formed after the death of Ryan Moore, 16, at an unprotected railroad crossing in March 1995. Katie Police, Songfest chairperson and Greek Board member, advocated Angels on Track in memory of a close friend, Jennifer Garry, who died on an unprotected railroad crossing in Perry Township in 1998. Ms. Police also was sensitive to the loss of two KSU students' in a 1991 train collision at an unprotected crossing. Cheryl Brown and Christine Baxter died in that accident. According to Ms. Police, "Every 90 minutes, a train and a motor vehicle are involved in an accident or incident. I think that indicates something in the process is obviously not working. It is my personal goal to do all that I can to make people aware of the dangers of traveling on roads with unguarded railroad tracks." Ms. Police is excited
that members of The Angel on Track Foundation will attend Songfest. "It's the first year that the Foundation
we have selected to support is attending and participating in the event," she
adds. Vicky Moore, Angels on Track Foundation Trustee, will share her
brief remarks with the audience prior to the competition. # # # For more information,
